Chart Live as Trading is Occurring in Real Time
In addition to end of day charting Insight Trader gives you
the facility of using a live data feed to chart intraday data.
You can plot, for example, tick charts (ie trade by trade
charts), one minute bar charts, five minute candlesticks, true
course of sales point and figure etc.
The Insight Trader tick database can store up to 100 000
ticks (or trades) for each security. This represents over
eight months trading even for some heavily traded instruments
such as ANZ and all this information can be displayed on the
one chart if required.
Insight Trader supports live charting while giving access
to most of the usual facilities that you will be familiar with
from your normal end of day charts.
There are two types
of live chart:
These two types of
chart - long term and short term - can be updating
simultaneously on the screen.
In fact just
as with end of day charts it is theoretically possible to have up to
506 charts updating on the screen at the same time. A
practical limit is less than 50
You can plot all the usual chart types, indicators, draw
trendlines and other structures, save charts, run slideshows
of saved charts and drive autoruns from reference lists just
as you can with end of day charts. Below is a 5 minute bar
chart with moving average and trendline

A tick chart
for
NAB for 11 and 12 April 2001 is shown below.

You can also value
your portfolio in real time.
The system
module operates in real time on daily data updated with
current intraday data.
As news breaks
you can read, in their entirety, the various News Bulletins
from
within Insight Trader and where there is any specific news for
a particular company, that excerpt is automatically extracted
and inserted into the notepad for
the relevant security file so you can immediately pull up any
information on that company for today without having to read
through the whole news file.
In the caption
bar of each window displaying a chart is printed the change
from the previous close,
the last price and most recent bid and ask. On the
chart itself you will see the levels of the current bid and
ask as
coloured lines changing dynamically on
the right hand side against the vertical axis.
